Dear Beloved Companions,
I wish you many blessings today, Mary Magdalene's Feast Day. Her message and story have resurrected after two thousand years of being left out. Her story is a love story. She inspires us to awaken to the simple truth that the WAY that Jesus taught, the spiritual practice he modeled was about passionate loving, intimate, close relationships.
Where did Jesus learn this WAY of loving relationships? Did he learn it from Mary Magdlene? They learned it from one another just as we learn how to love from our relationships. The Partnership Way of Love is the love that is stronger than any suffering and even death.
I invite you to imagine in your mind's eye, Jesus and Mary Magdlene walking in the garden, holding hands and loving one another - and you are with them.
"And they walk with me and they talk with me and they tell me I am their own and the love they share as they tarry there, none other has ever known. "I Come to the Garden Alone" by C. Austin Miles adapted by me.
Let us recast the rugged individual cowboy type Jesus, you know they guy all alone or way off in the heavens somewhere. Let's pair him with Mary Magdalene in our religious imagination. Please imagine them as passionately, loving, close and intimate, perhaps as co ministers, or teacher and student, or lovers, a married couple, parents perhaps. Maybe one or all of the above. They had a loving partnership.
We celebrated her at the opening of An Interspecies Prayer, I love you, I love you, I love you. Amen, featuring The Holy Ghost Spirit Band, last weekend. May we honor her and Jesus as beloved companions today and everyday. May we model passionate, loving, intimate, close relationships in our own lives. Not just with humans but with all God's creatures, and not just with our friends but with our enemies, not just with those alive but those on the other side.
