Responsive Vow  We come to pledge “to defend Mother Earth, to work and live as generously and wisely as we can on behalf of Mother earth and her creatures so that future generations might live and thrive and take in her beauty and her health that we  may become defenders and lovers of Mother Earth.”  (Matthew Fox)

Prayer(in union)Holy Mama, Great Spirit, God of Love,  You who we call by many names, we give thanks for you and all of creation. Thank you God for our common home Mother Earth and help us to awake up  and open our eyes to see your magnificence all around us. We pray for the 8 billion people in our human family. We pray for the humanitarian crisis in Syria and the 14 million people on the brink of starvation in a war the US  supports. We pray for the poor and the poor of spirit. We pray for our enemies as Jesus taught us.  (Silence)We pray for all human and non-human babies this Advent and Christmas season. May we wake up to the truth that all children are our own. Benediction               Blessing Song           by Miriam Therese Winters

May the blessings of God go before you. May her grace and peace abound. May her spirit live within you. May her love wrap you round. May her blessings remain with you always. May you walk on holy ground.

Scripture Jewish Sibylline Order(a vision of family not democracy according to Marcus Borg, in The First Christmas)

The earth will belong equally to all, undivided by walls or fences. It will then bear more abundant fruits spontaneously. Lives will be in common and wealth will have no division. For there will be no poor man there, no rich, no tyrant, no slave. Further, no one will be wither great or small anymore. No kings, no leaders. All will be on a par together.  (2.319-24

Revelation 12: 1 A great portent appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pangs, in the agony of giving birth. Then another portent appeared in heaven: a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born. And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule[a] all the nations with a rod of iron. But her child was snatched away and taken to God and to his throne;

Invitations: Our current ecologic crisis is a call to awaken to the reverence of life and the truth that all nature is alive and sacred. We study the teachings of Jesus and the Bible as well as the newly found gnostic gospels.

One:God of Love,  We confess that we have not recognized you in everyone, everywhere! You Holy One who are all over the place, down, up, inside and outside, you are as small as cells we cannot see with the human eye to the largeness of distant galaxies.  Thank you God for Mother Earth, our planetary home and our place among all the species of life.

All:We ask for forgiveness for thinking and acting small and not radically loving our neighbor which is all nature that is sacred and alive.  Help us to give up ranking life forms and people’s worth in our minds.  We pray for all the people, animals, plants and minerals killed in the current California fires caused by climate change. We pray for the 150-200 species that die every day in this time of earth genocide. We pray for the humanitarian crisis in Syria and for all the children in the world suffering from cholera, starvation, and abuse. We pray for the 68 million refugees in the world, one in every 100 people. We pray for our Mother Earth who has been dishonored, ignored and abused.

One:We cannot comprehend the enormity of suffering and  know you gracious God feel this suffering with creation. We give thanks for Jesus and Mary Magdalene, Buddha and Pope Francis and for all the saints who show us the way to live amidst suffering and injustice and to commune with you, Holy One.  We also suffer but  we also give thanks for new life often hidden from view. Where there is life there is hope. We celebrate hope. We pray for our enemies as Jesus taught us.

(Silence)

All:You who we call by many names, you who are the source of all creative life, in all galaxies may we open and attend to you in all life forms. We consent to you, your truth and limitless unconditional love that we may become defenders and lovers of Mother Earth.

(Silence)We give thanks this thanksgiving for you God of love, for  all of creation and the gift of being alive and awake.  Amen

Spirit, spirit of gentleness. Blow through the wilderness, calling and free. Spirit, spirit of restlessness. Stir me from placidness. Wind, wind on the sea. - James K. Manley

World Parliament of Religions, Toronto Canada

Meditative words “Receptiveness and responsiveness to God’s call always works for ecological civilization.  There is no requirement that one think about this inclusive goal.  but God has called some to think about the inclusive goal and offer that understanding to others.  Perhaps those who understand the common goal can receive from God calls that are not possible for those whose imagination is more limited.  Some of us are called to develop and share the common vision. Others are called to give a cup of cold water to a thirsty stranger.  Others are called to tell a joke.  Others are called to express their love in a sexual embrace.  Others are called to strive even harder in a race. Let us respect and love one another and put our hope in God’s weaving out of our small contributions a habitable planet, sensible ideas, and a humane society.” Dr. John B. Cobb Jr.

El shaddai, el shaddai,by Michael J. Card / John W Thompson
El shaddai, el shaddai El-elyon na adonia,
Age to age you're still the same,By the power of the name.
El shaddai, el shaddai,Erkamka na adonai,
We will praise and lift you high, El shaddai.

Through a loving Mother Maria. You saved the ancient Christ-Sophia. Through the power of your hands you turned the sea into dry land.

To the outcast on her knees, you were the Go who really sees,

and by your might you set your children free.

Sophia, Sophia, Christ Sophia Shekinah, age to age your still the same.

By the power of your many names. Sophia, Sophia, Christ Sophia Shekinah. We will praise and lift  you high, Sophia.

Through the years you've made it clear,

That the time of Christ-Sophia was near,
Though the people couldn't see
What Christ-Sophia ought to be.
Through your Wisdom came the plan,
They just could not understand
Your most awesome work by the two becoming one.

Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness by James K. Manley

Spirit, spirit of gentleness.
Blow through the wilderness, calling and free.
Spirit, spirit of restlessness. Stir me from placidness.
Wind, wind on the sea.

1. You moved on the waters, You called to the deep,
Then You coaxed up the mountains. From the valley of sleep,
And over the eons You called to each thing,
"A wake from your slumbers and rise on your wings."

2. You swept through the dessert, You stung with the sand,
And You gifted your people With a law and a land,
And when they were blinded With their idols and lies,
Then You spoke through Your prophets To open their eyes.

3. You sang in a stable, You cried from a hill,
Then You whispered in silence When the whole world was still,
And down in the city You called once again
When You blew through Your people On the rush of the wind.

4. You call from tomorrow, You break ancient schemes,
From the bondage of sorrow The captives dream dreams;
Our women see visions, Our men clear their eyes.
With bold new decisions Your people arise.

Scripture       Matthew 6:7-14 The Inclusive Bible the First Egalitarian Translation

“And when you pray, do not babble like the Gentiles. They think God will hear them if they use a lot of words. Don’t imitate them, for your God knows what you need before you ask it. “This is how you are to pray:

Abba God in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10May your reign come.

May your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us today the bread of tomorrow.

And forgive us our debts, as we hereby forgive those who are indebted to us.

Don’t put us to the test, but free us from evil.’

“If you forgive the faults of others Abba God will forgive you yours. If you don’t forgive others, neither will Abba God forgive you.

SCRIPTURE GOSPEL OF MARK NEW REVISED STANDARD VERSION (NRSV)

Jesus sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” 36 Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.”

Make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy, And where there is sadness, joy, joy, joy. God grant that I may not so much see; To be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we pardoned. And it is in dying that we are born, to Eternal Life. Amen, Amen, Amen

Mary Magdalene Café Dinner and Dancing

It's you I Likeby Mr. Fred Rogers

It's you I like, it's not the things you wear,

It's not the way you do your hair but it's you I like

The way you are right now, the way down deep inside you

Not the things that hide you, not your toys, they're just beside you.

But it's you I like every part of you.

Your skin, your eyes, your feelings

Whether old or new. I hope that you'll remember

Even when you're feeling blue that it's you I like,

It's you yourself it's you. it's you I like.

Tis A Gift To Be Simple

Joseph Brackett (1797-1882)
Shaker dancing song

'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come 'round right

Announcements:We are witnessing the 6thextinction of life on earth -the only one created by humans. It is simultaneously  a time when love and truth are transmitting to and through us.  We gather to create community and to give thanks to God for all of creation as we create  a new kind of ecologic community. Every Sunday at 5 pm we acknowledge that we need one another more than ever before as we commit to deepening  our relationship with God. Following worship we invite everyone to the Mary Magdalene Cafe for a pot luck dinner at 6 pm, with vegetarian soup or main dish and drinks provided. Weather permitting we share star gazing and dancing. We follow in the teachings of Jesus not necessarily church traditions. We look to the early traditions of house churches, often led by women in the first few hundred years of early Christianity and also  explore and study the newly found gnostic gospels. Children and dogs are especially welcome at worship. (Dogs are not allowed at Torrey Pines State Park) 501C-3 nonprofit tax exempt status for church approved! Your gifts to church are tax deductible.

ScriptureMark 7:24-37(NRSV) “Then he returned from the region of Tyre, and went by way of Sidon towards the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. 32 They brought to him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they begged him to lay his hand on him. 33 He took him aside in private, away from the crowd, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue. 34 Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” 35 And immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. 36 Then Jesus[a]ordered them to tell no one; but the more he ordered them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. 37 They were astounded beyond measure, saying, “He has done everything well; he even makes the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”

Voice Still and Small by John Corrado

Voices still and small, I hear you call, singing. In storm and rain, sorrow and pain, still we’ll remain singing. Calming my fears, quenching my fears, through all the years, singing.

I Hear a Call by Emmylou Harris

I hear a call now will I answer, forsake my all

To serve another, though darkness falls stay a believer

I hear a call, now will answer.

I see a light now will I follow, fill up this life

that grows more hollow, make joy reside where there lives sorrow,

I see a light, now will follow.

I hear a call from out of nowhere and from everywhere I go

I hear a call, now will answer.

I feel a touch, now will I hold on, be there with love,

For those with no one, with a kindness such

It lives though I'm gone, I feel a touch now will I hold on.

I hear a call from out of nowhere and from everywhere I go,

I see a light now will I follow, I feel a touch now will I hold on

I hear a call now will I answer.

Yet he could not escape notice, 25but a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately heard about him, and she came and bowed down at his feet.26Now the woman was a Gentile, of Syrophoenician origin. She begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27He said to her, “Let the children be fed first, for it is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.” 28But she answered him, “Sir, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” 29Then he said to her, “For saying that, you may go—the demon has left your daughter.” 30So she went home, found the child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.

God and the World, John Cobb

Meditation“Christian faith is not essentially bound up with the God who is seen primarily as Creator—Lord of history—Lawgiver—Judge and who has so long dominated the Christian sensibility and imagination of the West. What the Christian know in Jesus is something quite different, and something which speaks more of human responsibility than of total dependence, more of full humanity than of repression, more of hope than of nostalgia of fear. The One who is met in Jesus is the God who suffers with us and for us more than the God who demands and judges from on high. We may name him Christ …but we must now, as never before, allow what appeared in Jesus to give meaning and content to the Reality we thereby name.” God and the World, John Cobb

Musical Prayer    Every Time I Feel the Spirit

Every time I feel the Spirit moving in my heart I will pray.

Every time I feel the Spirit moving in my heart I will pray.

1.Upon the mountain, when my God spoke, out of his mouth came fire and smoke. In the valley, on my knees, asked my God have mercy please.

2. Jordan River, chilly and cold, chills the body but not the soul.

All around me was a shine asked my God  if all was mine.

3. Inside the cave of Mary Magdalene, we felt the flowers and the oil.

We prayed for God to love us please and in her mercy she agreed.

Prayers of Confession  (in unison) Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We are living in a time of the sixth extinction of life on earth where 150-200 species of plants, insects, birds and mammals become extinct every 24 hours. As we face this truth we need your love as we devote our lives to serve all creatures. We pray for all creatures who are suffering  from the violence of poverty, systemic racism, ecological devastation, and the war economy. You who we call by many names, you who are the source of all, have mercy on us and bless the holy union between Jesus and Mary Magdalene within us and in our world.  Heal us in your miraculous love. Amen

Gospel of John 5:17, 6:55, 6:63 Jesus said to them, “Abba God is working right now, and I am at work as well.” …not only was he speaking of God as “Abba”—that is, Papa”—thereby making their relationship one of intimacy and equality.

6:55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink Everyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I live in them. Just as the Living Abba God sent me and I have life because of Abba God, so those who feed on me with have life because of me.

6:63It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh in itself is useless. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” (The Inclusive New Testament)

Make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy, And where there is sadness, joy, joy, joy. God grant that I may not so much seek; To be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we pardoned. And it is in dying that we are born, to Eternal Life. Amen, Amen, Amen

Benediction               Blessing Song           by Miriam Therese Winters

May the blessings of God go before you. May her grace and peace abound. May her spirit live within you. May her love wrap you round. May her blessings remain with you always. May you walk on holy ground.

Group Reading and Introduction of Ritual

Voice One:Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat-pocket, or a watch to take out of it, and, burning with curiosity, she ran across the field after it, and was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole under the hedge.

Voice Two: In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again. Alice's first instinct when she sees something unusual is to chase it. She doesn't think about her own safety, she doesn't concoct a plan, and she doesn't feel scared. She just feels surprised, then curious, and we're off – knowing she's going to be a fun character to follow through the adventures she's certain to have with this attitude.

Voice Three:Soon her eye fell on a little glass box that was lying under the table: she opened it, and found in it a very small cake, on which the words "EAT ME" were beautifully marked in currants. "Well, I'll eat it," said Alice, "and if it makes me grow larger, I can reach the key; and if it makes me grow smaller, I can creep under the door: so either way I'll get into the garden, and I don't care which happens!" (Wonderland 1.22)

Voice Four:Not only does Alice explore the fantasy realm of Wonderland, she also explores different states of being for herself. After all, that's what all children have to do – explore a new size and a new body pretty much every day.

Voice Five: By this time she had found her way into a tidy little room with a table in the window, and on it (as she had hoped) a fan and two or three pairs of tiny white kid-gloves: she took up the fan and a pair of the gloves, and was just going to leave the room, when her eye fell upon a little bottle that stood near the looking-glass. There was no label this time with the words "DRINK ME," but nevertheless she uncorked it and put it to her lips. "I know something interesting is sure to happen," she said to herself, "whenever I eat or drink anything: so I'll just see what this bottle does." Alice's sense of adventure sometimes borders on the reckless. The author is careful to explain that Alice usually makes sure the things she eats and drinks aren't marked poison, but in this case she seems particularly careless. Isn't it likely that a bottle beside a mirror in a bedroom would be filled with cologne or some other toiletry that wouldn't be a good idea to drink?

Spoken Vows(in unison)

I Jesus, take you Mary Magdalene . . .
I, Mary Magdalene, take you, Jesus . . .
For richer, for poorer . . .
In sickness and in health . . .

To love and to honor . . .

To hold and to cherish . . .
From each sun to each moon . . .
From tomorrow to tomorrow . . .

From now to forever . . .
Till death do us part.

With this ring, I thee wed.
With this ring, I thee wed.

Singing vows

Make of our hands one hand,
Make of our hearts one heart,
Make of our vows one last vow:
Only death will part us now.

Make of our lives one life, day after day, one life.

Now it begins, now we start, One hand, one heart;

Even death won’t part us now.

Make of our lives, one life

Day after day, one life, Now it begins, now we start,

One hand, one heart, Even death won’t part us now.

Announcements:We are witnessing the 6thextinction of life on earth -the only one created by humans. We gather to create loving community that lives in harmony with nature.  Jesus taught a way to live in the truth and taught us that, “The truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) Every Sunday at 5 pm we come to acknowledge that we need one another more than ever before during the ecologic disaster. Following worship we invite everyone to the Mary Magdalene Cafe for a pot luck dinner at 6 pm, with vegetarian soup or main dish and drinks provided. Weather permitting we share star gazing and dancing. We follow in the early traditions of house churches led by women in the first few hundred years of early Christianity and also to study the newly found gnostic gospels and honor all wisdom traditions.  Children and dogs are especially welcome at worship. (Dogs are not allowed at Torrey Pines State Park)

Please pray and ask for guidance for Church for Our Common Home. We are open to having  someone or some organization who may like to  donate  two or more acres of land in San Diego County, or where the spirit leads us, to build a straw bale artistic untraditional church and  prayer center.  Inspired by the creativity of Salvation Mt here in southern California and the community in Findhorn Scotland we hope to create a sacred place of beauty to inspire and heal our religious imaginations  as we create a new religious story for our time. We are open to collaborating with others as we work to alleviate suffering in children and all living creatures. This will increase due to the ecologic catastrophe and planetary crisis. We are called to respond awake and in love. We follow in the footsteps of Brother Roger who bought a farm in France and cared for orphans in need of help after WWII and created a loving and thriving spiritual community in Taize.  It is time to prepare for the ecologic disaster as we create a radically loving spirit filled community.   Our 501C-3 nonprofit tax exempt status for church approved! Opening Doors Within, by Eileen Caddy WelcomeWe dedicate this worship to the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin. Please joi

Meditation“ Why not start right now receiving your spiritual inspiration and guidance at first hand and not through anyone else? Do you not realize that you have within you all wisdom, all knowledge, all understanding? You do not have to seek it without, but it does mean that you have to take time to be still and to go deep within to find it. There is nothing more wonderful or worthwhile than direct contact with Me, the source of all creation. It means you have to take time, and if necessary make time to find it. You have to reach the stage where you are consciously aware of Me and of My divine presence at all times, where you are willing to bring Me into the whole of your life, and walk and talk with Me all the time, sharing everything with me, both your successes and your failures. When the love is flowing and you are one with Me, you will want more than anything to share everything with Me.” Daily Guidance for Sunday 19 August in          Opening Doors Within, by Eileen Caddy

Every time I feel the Spirit moving in my heart I will pray.

Every time I feel the Spirit moving in my heart I will pray.

1.Upon the mountain, when my Lord spoke, out of his mouth came fire and smoke. In the valley, on my knees, asked my lord have mercy please.

2. Jordan River, chilly and cold, chills the body but not the soul.

All around me was a shine asked my lord if all was mine

Prayersof Confession  (in unison) Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We are living in a time of  the sixth extinction of life on earth where 150-200 species of plants, insects, birds and mammals become extinct every 24 hours. You who we call by many names, you who are the source of all, have mercy on us and give us courage as we seek to heal and purify ourselves in your unbounding love.   Heal us in your miraculous love.

We are living in a time of  the 6thextinction of life on earth where 150-200 species of plant, insect, bird and mammal become extinct every 24 hours and we need strength and vision to prepare for the catastrophe.  The human family  has not loved you and your creation with our whole hearts; we have not loved  our human, non-human and plant relatives as ourselves. We are truly sorry and humbly ask you to help us to face the truth of the severity of our circumstances and begin to  work to do our inner work and save our common home, mother earth.  We  come knowing we must look to the inner demons within us and all the ways we have sinned against you by not telling the truth. You who we call by many names, you who are the source of all, have mercy on us and give us courage as we seek to heal and purify ourselves in your unbounding love.   Awaken us to our false selves and egos that we may confess and share the truth of our smallness. We long to spiritually grow and become more loving to you, to ourselves and to everyone we encounter. Please bring all those things into holy union within us, so that we may become radically loving like you and like Jesus.  Heal us in your

Scripture Philippians 2:9,10 Though his (Jesus’) state was that of God, yet he did not deem equality with God something he should cling to. Rather, he emptied himself, (Greek verb- Kenosein means to let go or empty oneself) and assuming the state of a slave, he was born in human likeness.“

Sufi Mystic Jalalludin Rumi

Love is recklessness, not reason. Reason seeks a profit, Love comes on strong, consuming herself, unabashed. Yet in the midst of suffering, Love proceeds like a millstone, hard-surfaced and straight forward. Having died to self-interest, she risks everything and asks for nothing. Love gambles away every gift God bestows.”

PrayerUnknown poet left at the body of a dead child in a death camp.

(in unison) O God remember not only the men and women of good will, but also those of ill will. But do not remember all the suffering they inflicted on us; Remember the fruits we have brought, thanks to this suffering—our comradeship, our loyalty, our humility, our courage, our generosity, the greatness of heart which has grown out of all this and when they come to judgement let all the fruits which we have borne be their forgiveness. Amen

We need your help to find someone who will give us two or more acres of land in San Diego County to build our straw bale work of art church in the spirit of Salvation Mt. We will also consider collaborating with another organization to work to alleviate suffering and create community for needy serve children, families, Mother Earth and the least of these. Any ideas of organizations in San Diego who may already have structures and or land that we could share are needed. Our visions is that the  elders in our church will  become community makers during the time of ecologic devastation,  following in the footsteps of the Taize community after WWII. Brother Roger bought a farm and cared for orphans and invited ecumenical religious leaders to join him. They became an  innovative spirit filled ecumenical community who continues to attract young people. It is time to prepare for the ecologic disaster in building radically loving community.   Church for Our Common Home has the vision of  using our planetary crisis as an invitation to spiritually grow and create sustainable and loving community. Our 501C-3 nonprofit tax exempt status for church approved! The Gospel of Mary Magdalene, commentary by Jean-Yves Leloup

Meditation” …For the imaginal is not merely something that is at best possible as is the imaginary. Rather, it is of an ontological reality entirely superior to that of mere possibility. Imaginal realties are not less endowed with real Being than are the factual realties that are the basis of history. Furthermore, history itself ceases to exist when it denigrates into a mere collection of facts unconnected by a story—and this story cannot be found without a transcendent dimension that sees. ” The Gospel of Mary Magdalene, commentary by Jean-Yves Leloup

May the blessings of God go before you. May her grace and peace abound. May her spirit live within you. May her love wrap you round. May her blessings remain with you always. May you walk on holy ground.

Chant Be still and know that I am God/dess.  Be still and know that I am God. Be still and know that I am, Be still and know that I, Be still and know that, Be still and know, Be still and, Be still, Be. (repeat)

Words of Wisdom “Silence, they say, is Mother of all beings born of the Abyss. Inasmuch as she expressed the inexpressible, she has kept to silence. Inasmuch as she has understood, she has named it: the incomprehensible.” Clement of Alexandria

 Silence

Chant“Come and fill my heart with your peace, you the God of love are holy. Come and fill our hearts with your peace”

Gospel of Mary Magdalene “I left the world with the aid of another world; a design was erased, by virtue of a higher design. Henceforth I travel toward Repose, where time rests in the Eternity of time; I go now into Silence. Having said all this May became silent, for it was in silence that the Teacher (Jesus) spoke to her.”

 Silence

Chant Our God is our light, Our light and salvation. In God I trust. In God I trust. (repeat)

Gospel of Mary Magdalene commentary by Jean Le Loup “Before attaining the Repose in Silence, Miriam’s being must pass through four climates, the final and uppermost of which consists of seven levels. At the opening of page 15, Miriam has already passed through the first climate. She has left behind the experiences of nausea so well described I our contemporary literature—that sense of disgust and absurdity at being too full of matter, trapped and stifled by the weight of our constituent elements.”

Silence

Chant Ubi caritas et amor, ubi caritas Deus ibiest.

Live in charity and steadfast love, live in charity; God will dwell in you. (repeat)

Gospel of Mary Magdalene The Second Climate a tense and stressful climate of complaints and demands….Craving can never say “Enough” only  “More.” “And craving said: ‘I did not see you descend, but now I see you rising, Why do you lie?”

Silence

Chant HolySpirit come to us, kindle in us the fire of your love, Holy Spirit, come to us, Holy Spirit, come to us.”(repeat)

Gospel of Mary Magdalene The Third Climate Refusal of knowledge, willful ignorance, refusal of awareness, closed mindedness, complacency and vanity. “ Then it entered into the third climate, known as ignorance. Ignorance inquired of the soul” ”Where are you going You are dominated by wicked inclinations. Indeed, you lack discrimination, and you are enslaved. “(Awareness of our own ignorance can be out salvation Does not wisdom begin with consciousness of our own not-knowing, just as healing begins with consciousness of our own lack of health?”

 Silence

Chant O God hear my prayer. O God hear my prayer. When I call answer me. O God hear my prayer. God hear my prayer. Come and listen to me. (repeat)

Gospel of Mary Magdalene Fourth Climate Sevenfold Wrath, A climate that adds to violence to the other climates, bringing then to climaxes of jealousy, possessiveness, pride, and the madness of profane wisdom. And enslavement to the body. “These are the seven manifestations of Wrath, and they oppressed the soul with questions: ‘Where do you come form murderer?” and “Where are you going vagabond?”

Silence

Chanting Come and pray in us, Holy Spirit, come and pray in us, come and visit us, Holy Spirit, Spirit come, Sprit come. (repeat)

Gospel of Mary Magdalene “That which oppressed me has been slain; that which encircles me as vanished; my craving has faded, and I am freed from my ignorance.” This is the psyche turned toward the nous ( the bridge between the Holy Spirit and the sprit within) It is no longer subject to craving and ignorance, for it has discovered the harmonious order of the human manifold. The soul’s sprit can now rejoin the Holy SPiirt. “

Silence

Chanting Alleluia, Kiss the Bride of Christ  (repeat)

Announcements:We are witnessing the 6thextinction of life on earth -the only one created by humans. We gather to create community and to give thanks to God for all of creation as we build a new ‘ecologic civilization.’  .  Jesus taught a way to live in the truth and taught us that, “The truth will set you free.” (John 8:32) Every Sunday at 5 pm we acknowledge that we need one another more than ever before as we deepen our relationship with God. Following worship we invite everyone to the Mary Magdalene Cafe for a pot luck dinner at 6 pm, with vegetarian soup or main dish and drinks provided. Weather permitting we share star gazing and dancing. We follow in the early traditions of house churches led by women in the first few hundred years of early Christianity and also to study the newly found gnostic gospels. Children and dogs are especially welcome at worship. (Dogs are not allowed at Torrey Pines State Park)

It is time to prepare for the ecologic disaster.  Church for Our Common Home has the vision of  using our planetary crisis as an invitation to spiritually grow and create sustainable and loving community. Our 501C-3 nonprofit tax exempt status for church approved! Your gifts to church are tax deductible.

The Gospel of Mary Magdalene, commentary by Jean-Yves Leloup

Meditation“A living deity who wants to communicate thus necessitates an intermediate realm between God and human, between the invisible and the visible, between the world of immaterial spirit and material bodies. It is this intermediary imaginal realm that Miriam has her meetings with the resurrected Christ. As with the ancient prophets, God activates the necessary visionary, imaginal forms in her, so as to bring her to the Divine.” The Gospel of Mary Magdalene, commentary by Jean-Yves Leloup

Visions, Dreams and the ImaginalRev. Bonnie Tarwater

Prayersof Confession (in unison) Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We are living in a time of  the 6thextinction of life on earth where 150-200 species of plant, insect, bird and mammal become extinct every 24 hours. We obviously have not loved you and your creation with our whole heart; we have not loved all of our human, non-human and plant families as ourselves. We are truly sorry and humbly ask you to help us to tell the truth and work for reconciliation.  You who we call by many names, you who are the source of all, have mercy on us and forgive us and give us courage to explore the imaginal realms for we will not solve our current problems using the same methods we used to create them. Help us to wake up to the divine realm where we meet and co-create with you. Guide us as we scommune with you in new ways and please wake us up to visions and dreams of you. Please  bring all those things into holy union within us, so that we may rest in you. Heal us in your miraculous love.  Give us hope when we are afraid and have little hope. Amen Silent Prayerand Prayers(see insert)

Karen King The Gospel of Mary Magdalene

Meditation“According to the master story, the full doctrines of  Christianity was fixed by Jesus and passed on in the doctrines of the Church. The Gospel of Mary instead suggests that the story of the gospel is unfinished. Christians doctrine and practice are not fixed dogmas that one can only accept or reject; rather Christians are required to step into the story and work together  to shape the meaning of the gospels in their own time. Because human passions and love of the world incline people to error, discerning the truth requires effort, and it insists that communities of faith take responsible on how they appropriate tradition in a world too often ruled by powers of injustice and domination.“

Scripture Reading

The Inclusive Bile; The First Egalitarian Translation

 Genesis 21:15-19

21:15-19 When the skin of water was empty, she (Hagar) set the child under a bush and sat down opposite him, about a bow shot away.

She said to herself, “Don’t let me see the child die!” and she began to wail and weep. God heard the child crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from the heaven.

“What is wrong, Hagar?” the angel asked.

“Do not be afraid, for God has heard the child’s cry. Get up and lift up the child and hold his hand; for I will make him a great nation.” Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She went to it and filled the skin with water, and she gave the child a drink.

Scripture Readi

Unmasking the Powers,Walter Wink

Meditation“The demonic is not then merely the consequences that follow in the wake of self-idolizing institutions; it is also the spirit that insinuates itself into those whose compliance the institution requires in order to further its absolutizing schemes. Such systems cannot govern by force alone; indeed, force is always a counsel of last resort and a sign that a Power is losing its grip on the people’s minds. When a demonic institution is functioning normally, it does so by the enthusiast and willing consent of those it is in the very act of oppressing, or at the very least, with their terrified compliance. The policeman steps off the corner and into their heads. The Powers rule from within….A megalomaniac like Hitler would get nowhere if he were not riding the cresting wave of resentment from millions of would-be megalomaniacs longing to be released from the restraints of truth and vitality. Like thousands of smaller sewage pipes draining from every house in a city into the central main, our inner demons feed the outer. Neither has pride of place. Together they form a united front of hostility to the humanizing purposes of God.”

Gospel of Mark 4:26-34 Jesus said further, “The reign of God is like this; a sower scatters seed on the ground, then goes to bed at night and gets up day after day. Through it all the seed sprouts and grows without the sower knowing how it happens. The soil produces a crop by itself—first the blade, then the ear, and finally ripe wheat in the ear. When the crop is the sower wields the sickle, for the time is ripe for harvest.” Jesus went on to say “”What comparisons can we use for the reign of God? What image will help to present it? It is like a mustard seed which people plant in the soil: it is the smallest of seeds, yet once it is sown it springs up to become the largest of shrubs with branches big enough for the birds of the sky to build their nests in its shade.” Using many parables like these, Jesus spoke the message to them, as much as they could understand. Everything was spoken in parables, but Jesus explained everything to the disciples later when they were alone.

Garden Song by David Mallett

ChorusInch by inch, row by row,

Gonna make this garden grow.

All it takes is a rake and a hoe,

And a piece of fertile ground.

Inch by inch, row by row,

Someone bless these seeds I sow.

Please God warm them from below,

Till the rain comes tumbling down.

Pulling weeds and picking stones ,

We are made of dreams and bones.

Feel the need to grow my own,

Cause the time is close at hand.

Grain for grain, sun and rain,

Find my way in nature's chain.

Tune my body and my brain,

To the music from the land.

Plant your rows straight and long,

Temper them with prayer and song

Mother Earth will make you strong,

If you give her love and care

Mother crow watching me,

From her perch in yonder tree

In my garden I'm as free,

As that feathered mother  up there.

Dear God, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone. Amen

This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate, Naomi Klein,

Meditation “The killing of Mother Earth in our time is the number one ethical, spiritual, and human issue of our planet.” The Cosmic Christ, Matthew Fox
“So my mind keeps coming back to the question: what is wrong with us? What is really preventing us from putting out the fire that is threatening to burn down our collective house? I think the answer is far more simple than many have led us to believe: we have not done the things that are necessary to lower emissions because those things fundamentally conflict with deregulated capitalism, the reigning ideology for the entire period we have been struggling to find a way out of this crisis. We are stuck because the actions that would give us the best chance of averting catastrophe—and would benefit the vast majority—are extremely threatening to an elite minority that has a stranglehold over our economy, our political process, and most of our major media outlets.”

Our dear, dear Mother, daily provider, earth be your name. The time has come, to honor you, to know you and to show our love.” 1.You give us each day our daily grain, kissed by the sun and kissed by the rain. Teach us now to find a way to care for you in our work and play. Chorus 2.Within the beauty of your silent spin, we know you’re hurting and we feel your pain. With your forgiveness we can start anew. We need a chance to make it up to you. Chorus

for our Time as we Imagine a Church for Our Common Home as Our Work of Art (Art being the expression of our awe at creation)

Closing Prayer and Offering                                      Dan Ahlgren

St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi Prayer

Communion at the Mary Magdalene Cafe

Our communion is our weekly pot luck dinner immediately following worship on Sundays.

Dancing!

Chant Be still and know that I am God/dess.  Be still and know that I am God. Be still and know that I am, Be still and know that I,  Be still and know that, Be still and know, Be still and, Be still, Be. (repeat)

Words of Wisdom “By the term “cosmology” I mean three things: a scientific story about the origin of our universe; mysticism that is the psychic response to our being in a universe; and art, which translates science and mysticism into the images that awaken body, soul and society. A Cosmology needs all three elements to come alive: it is our joyful response (mysticism) the  awesome fact of our being in the universe (science) and our expression of that response by the art of our lives and citizenship (art). “ Matthew Fox The Coming of the Cosmic Christ

 Silence

Chant Every piece of this world is a part of the whole, everything that I see is connected to me. What I give you is a gift to me too, it is all one life all the way through. (repeat)

Words of Wisdom  Science “A religion old or new, that stressed the magnificence of the universe as revealed by modern science might be able to draw forth reserves of reverence and awe hardly tapped by the conventional faiths. Sooner or later such a religion will emerge.” Carl Sagan

 Silence

Chant Holy Spirit come to us, kindle in us the fire of your love, Holy Spirit, come to us, Holy Spirit, come to us.”(repeat)

Words of Wisdom  At the national Academy of Sciences conference in 1986 exploring the mass extinction of plants and animals on our planet, Paul R. Ehrlich of Stanford University declared, “Scientific analysis points, curiously, toward the need for a quasi-religious transformation of contemporary cultures….The past one hundred years of science have reawakened the human race to the power and dimension of time. Surely our dawning awareness of evolution and our gradual appreciation of the vast distances of time represented by the age of the earth (four and a half billion years) and the universe (about twenty billion years) fills s with a new awe at the mystery of our origins. All things are in flux; all things evolve; all things some and go; all things are in time and birthing in their time. Time and history are integral to all mystery. This is the cosmic law. A deep connection exists between the time consciousness of today’s science and the time consciousness of Jesus Christ” ” Fox

Silence

Chant “Come and fill my heart with your peace, you the God of love are holy. Come and fill our hearts with your peace”

Words from a Dream  Mysticism (a returning to the source or a direct experience of God/dess)  “The dream …was about the devastation our planet is currently undergoing because we lack a living cosmology. I call this devastation “matricide” or the killing of the mother, for this is how the dream spoke to me. ….The perils of Mother earth and our children will not be alleviated without enlisting our spiritual heritage in the struggle….The death of Mother Earth (matricide) and the resurrection of the human psyche (mysticism) and the coming of the Cosmic Christ (a living cosmology) name the mystery of the divine cycle of death and rebirth and sending of the Spirit in our time. Were the human race to believe anew in this mystery a renaissance would surely occur.” Fox

Silence

Chant Our God is our light, Our light and salvation. In God I trust. In God I trust. (repeat)

Words of Wisdom  “Who is a holy person? The one who is aware of others’ suffering.” Kabir

Silence

Chant Ubi caritas et amor, ubi caritas Deus ibiest.
Live in charity and steadfast love, live in charity; God will dwell in you. (repeat)

Scripture “The cosmos is fundamentally and primarily living…even in the very heart of the tiniest atom….nothing seems to me more vital, from the point of view of human energy, than the appearance and eventually, the systematic cultivation of such a “cosmic sense.” Teillhard de Chardin

Silence
Chant Alleluia (repeat)

Words from Visions In 1205, at the Church of San Daniano which later became St Clare’s first monastery, St Francis had a vision while he was in prayer before an icon of Jesus. Jesus said to him "Francis, Francis, go and repair my house which, as you can see, is falling into ruins." Later he realized that Jesus had not meant an actual building but to build a spiritual metaphoric church that  teaches the mystical teachings of Jesus for us to love the divine in all of creation.

Silence

Chant  O God hear my prayer. O God hear my prayer. When I call answer me. O God hear my prayer.  God hear my prayer. Come and listen to me. (repeat)

Words of Wisdom Art (Art that is an expression of our awe at creation, art as prayer!)  “The way to build a church is not to pay for it, certainly not with somebody else's money. The way to build a church is not even to pay for it with your own money. The way to build a church is to build it.”
St. Francis of Assisi

Silence

Chanting Come and pray in us, Holy Spirit, come and pray in us, come and visit us, Holy Spirit, Spirit come, Sprit come. (repeat)

Words of Wisdom “Creativity has an answer. We are told by those who have studied the processes of nature that creativity happens at the border between chaos and order. Chaos is a prelude to creativity. We need to learn, as every artist needs to learn, to live with chaos and indeed to dance with it as we listen to it and attempt some ordering. Artists wrestle with chaos, take it apart, deconstruct and reconstruct from it. Accept the challenge to convert chaos into some kind of order, respecting the timing of it all, not pushing beyond what is possible—combining holy patience with holy impatience--that is the role of the artist. It is each of our roles as we launch the twenty-first century because we are all called to be artists in our own way. We were all artists as children. We need to study the chaos around us in order to turn it into something beautiful. Something sustainable. Something that remains".”
Matthew Fox, Creativity

Meditation “In the ordinary course of events one species are disappearing every two thousand years. Currently, however, species are disappearing at the rate of one every twenty five minutes….We are the only species on this planet in its 5.5 billion years of existence to channel such a massive degree ($1.8 million per minute) of our human and natural resources into the design and production of weapons aimed at the destruction of ourselves and the planet. In its nuclear testing of bombs since 1945 in the Nevada desert the US alone has already ruptured Mother Earth’s womb 845 tines. Mother earth is in great pain—a pain inflicted by her children as we commit Matricide.”

Words of Wisdom   (King is experiencing constant death threats.) “I am faltering. I’m losing my courage. And I can’t let the people see me like this because if they see me weak and losing my courage, they will begin to get weak.”…And it seems at that moment that I could hear an inner voice saying to me, ‘Martin Luther, stand up for righteousness. Stand up for justice. Stand up for truth. And lo I will be with you, even until the end of the world.” He promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone. No never alone.” The Coming of  the Cosmic Christ, Matthew Fox

Words of Wisdom We’re sorry, honey. We sacrificed the human race to demons.’ After-Life debriefing from the Goddess and angels Posted on May 17, 2017 by Carl Herman

H: (sighs) So what good came of this “game”?

Angel 1: (laughs and slaps the human’s upper arm) That’s the spirit! You tell us. What did you gain of value from this experience?

The human has a flashback of Life from infancy to death. Again, time is meaningless and perspective is unimaginably broad compared with ordinary human consciousness.

H: (humbled) I learned to be creative even under harsh circumstances. I was forced to connect to the Goddess, the One, in greater identity from such challenging circumstances. I would never have worked that hard without the disconnection from Source. I learned to care for, to love, all the inhabitants on Earth as connected beings all under attack. I learned virtue is all that’s worth living for; our human bodies and “riches” available on Earth are nothing compared with honoring virtue.

A2: Again, well done, Brother. (bowing graciously) Yes, what you describe is universal of the experiences of those successful on Earth. Spirit when forced to express itself through the squeezed confines of Evil becomes tremendously creative, beyond what any of us imagined was possible. The “banter” among humans to enjoy each other’s’ company is unique: we call it “slave talk” to find ways to appreciate and enjoy the meager remains Evil allows their animals.

Scriptures Acts 2:1-6, 17 The Inclusive Bible, The First Egalitarian Translation

Pentecost is 50 days after Passover and 40 days after Easter, the Greek word for the Jewish Spring festival

2 When Pentecost Day arrived, they all met in one place. 2 Suddenly they heard what sounded like a violent rushing wind form heaven; the noise filled the entire house in which they were sitting. Something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each one. They were all filed with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as she enabled them…..but they were bewildered to hear their native language being spoken …. 6 Joel the prophet spoke of: In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young will see visions. Your elders will dream dreams.

Words of Wisdom “...the universe, by definition, is a single gorgeous celebratory event….. Our challenge is to create a new language, even a new sense of what it is to be human. It is to transcend not only national limitations, but even our species isolation, to enter into the larger community of living species.

This brings about a completely new sense of reality and value.”    The Dream of the Earth, Thomas Berry

Introduction of new members Dan Ahlgren and Jamie Long

Prayer

Membership Ceremony: Jamie and Dan are no longer strangers to us for as you become members of Church for Our Common Home, we make a promise to treat you as brothers and family. We promise to love you in good times and bad times, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer and ask that you make the same sacred promises to us, to Mother Earth and to God. As we make these sacred promises we ask that we remember that we do not expect  to be able to always follow through on these promises. They show us the direction we are traveling together. We are a promise making, promise breaking, promise remaking people.  We ask and pray that everyone will be honest with ourselves and with one another when we break these promises, and commit to do the work of truth and reconciliation in order to remake our scared promises.

1. Do you Dan and Jamie promise to open your hearts to receive the love we promise to give you here at Church for Our Common Home and to keep us in your daily prayers? I do.

2. Do you promise to try to follow in the ways of Jesus who taught us to love one another, especially the least of these? I do.

3. Do you promise to love and care for Mother Earth and all of the cosmos and creation?  I do.

4. Do you promise to love the God of your understanding, called my many names?  I do.

Congregational Promises

1. Do you all promise to love Dan and Jamie as brothers and friends and to keep them in your daily prayers? We do.

2. Do you promise to try to follow in the ways of Jesus who taught us to love one another, especially the least of these? We do.

3. Do you promise to love and care for Mother Earth and all of creation and the cosmos? We do.

4. Do you promise to love the God of your understanding, called my many names?  We do.

Prayers of Confession

Morning has Broken by Eleanor Parjeon

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness, where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day.

She Who Changes, Carol P. Christ

Meditation “For process philosophy, the whole universe is alive and changing, continually co-creating new possibly of life…..The process view stands in sharp contrast to both classical philosophy and early modern science, which thought the world to be made up of things (substances or essences) situated in empty space….Rejecting this view, Whitehead and Hartshorne propose that the world is “co-created” at every moment by Goddess/God and all the individual beings in the cosmos with a degree of freedom. Process philosophy assumes that the divine power is present within all individuals in the universe, supporting and sustaining them but not determining their every movement Goddess/God holds the whole together so that it will not explode into sheer chaos. Goddess/God is present with and in every individual hoping to lure or persuade it to make choices that will be beneficial both to itself and to the whole of life.” She Who Changes, Carol P. Christ

Prayers of Confession           Amazing Prayers           David DeBus

One: We raise up amazing prayers when the spirit moves within our hearts, we sing proud songs when we feel we belong to the one who brought us here, after the sun goes down the night-time starts

and when the night-time starts the stars dare to appear.

Many: We raise up amazing hopes when our despair is at its worst

we shout out our hope into the face of the dark with our lives

and when the beasts come after us—beasts who are accursed

we straighten our backs into our faith that survives.

One: We raise up impossible dreams when our future darkens with grave doubt, our children, our beloveds, our nations and our earth we cherish with God’s light, we can hear God’s kingdom coming like paradise out loud, we find the fold inside our souls that awaits all heaven’s delight.

Many: We have been empty, we have been vain, we have sought for what the world obtains, but now we are eager and aware, connected to the body forever and a day, we forgot all the misery that comes from when it rains, amazing prayers come among us as we connect to the one who shows the way.

Closing Prayer           St Francis of Assisi Prayer

Make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy, And where there is sadness, joy, joy, joy. God grant that I may not so much see; To be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we pardoned. And it is in dying that we are born, to Eternal Life. Amen, Amen, Amen

A Mother's Prayer

Dear Mother God/dess

I pray you'll be my eyes,
And watch her (us) where she (we) go
And help her (us) to be wise, Help me to let go.
Every mother's prayer, every child knows
Lead her (us) to a place,
Guide her (us) with your grace,
To a place where she'll (we’ll) be safe.

I pray she’ll (we’ll) find your light,
And holds it in her (our) heart
As darkness falls each night,
Remind her (us) where you are.
Every mother's prayer, every child knows.
Need to find a place, guide her (us) to a place
Give her (us) faith so she'll (we’ll) be safe.

Prayers of Thanks to All Mothers and All Who Have a Mother and to Our Common Home Mother Earth,

(In Unison) Dear Holy One, you who are in us and amongst us, you who are sympathetic and have feelings for every creature, we give thanks.

You who are also the Earth and the interconnectedness of all life; I love your daily grace, and your silent daring, and how loved I am, how we admire this strength in each other, all that we have lost, all that we have suffered, all that we know; we are stunned by this beauty and we do not forget; what you are to us, what I am to you God/dess of Love. You are the breadth of my life and the  blessing, the cells of my being sing in gratitude, reawakening. We give thanks for our own mothers who have given us life…..

We give thanks for all our children, grandchildren and everyone in the human family who comes after us………All of us who have had a mother, may we live in gratitude. All of us give thanks. Amen

“Our present Western consciousness is generally rationalistic, materialist, and extraverted in its attitudes; therefore by and large we no longer believe in the reality of an unseen spiritual world."

Meditation “Our present Western consciousness is generally rationalistic, materialist, and extraverted in its attitudes; therefore by and large we no longer believe in the reality of an unseen spiritual world. In spite of the insights of modern physicists who have exploded the old idea of material reality as something solid and firm, most of us are still encased in a materialist way of thinking that believes that only that which is perceivable by the senses, which lies outside of us and which can be made rational, exists or, at the least, is worth taking seriously. In contrast, the worldview of the early church led the early Christians to a more introverted attitude that directed their gaze into the world of the soul, which for them was a living reality. This in turn enabled them to see the profound and meaningful but irrational ways God worked through history in life, and in the soul itself to bring about the divine plan. For this reason the early Christian commentators were natural depth psychologists. They saw the soul as a battleground of archetypal forces and powers; for the most part they believed in dream and visions as a way in which spiritual reality broke into human consciousness; indeed, some of them wrote treaties on dream interpretation. They also believed that God was working out the divine purpose in the whole sweep of history and also in the human soul itself….the worlds of the unseen, what we would call today “ the unconscious “ in the psychology of Carl Jung and Fritz Kunkel, is as real, even more real, than the world we apprehend through the senses of the body. For them the meaning that lies hidden within the literal meaning is an introduction to spiritual reality itself.”

1.   Taize          “Spiritual Realms and God”

(The commentaries will not be read aloud during Taize)

Commentary from Mystical Christianity, by John A. Sanford

“Jesus reassures them…and tries to explain to them a great mystery: that in God there are many dimensions of reality…As long as our awareness is limited by that of our senses we cannot imagine any way that the soul could live except in this earthly existence and frameworks. Jesus points out that there are many possible abodes in which the soul can exist; he tells how he will go before  the disciples into a spiritual realm unseen by them in order to prepare a place for them in a realm of reality that the ego in its fleshy state, limited as it is to sense impression and ego-awareness, cannot perceive. This spiritual realm of which Jesus speaks is in fact, only apprehensible through inner experiences such as visions and ecstatic experience.”

Chant Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God/dess. Be still and know that I am. Be still and know that I. Be still and know that. Be still and know. Be still and. Be still. Be. (repeat)

Prayers and Silence

Gospel of John, Chapter 14 The Inclusive Bible, the First Egalitarian Translation

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God, have faith in me as well.  2 In God’s house there are many dwelling places. Otherwise how could I have told you that I was going to prepare a place for you? 3  I am indeed going to prepare a place for you, and then I will come back to take you with me,  that where I am, there you may be as well.

Chant Our God is our light, Our light and salvation. In God I trust. In God I trust. (repeat)

 Silence

2. Commentary “Literalist interpret John 14:6 as meaning that the literal belief in Jesus is the way…..However, others see in verse 6 a statement that is essentially mystical. ….this way is none other than the way of Sophia.... It is the Way of Wisdom, of growing consciousness, or moral rectitude, and is the way that leads us (as any good road should) to our proper and intended spiritual destination. “

Gospel of John Jesus said,4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”5 Thomas replied, “But we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus told him, “I myself am the way, and the truth, and I am the life. No one comes to Abba God but  through me. 7 If you really knew me, you will know Abba God  also. From this point on, you know Abba God and have seen God”

Chant Christ-Sophia your light shines within us. Let not my doubts nor my darkness speak to me. Christ-Sophia your light shines within us. Let my heart always welcome your love.” (repeat)

Silence

Gospel of John ”Phillip said, ‘show us the Abba God, and that will be enough for us. “ Jesus replied, “ Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen Abba God. 10 Don’t you  believe that I am in Abba God and God is in me? The words that I speak are not spoken of myself it is Abba God living in me.

Chant  U-bi ca-ri-tas et amor, u-bi-ca-ri-tas De-us i-bi est. (repeat) (Where charity and love abound, God is there.)

Silence

Gospel of John 11 Believe me that I am God and God is in me; or else believe because of the works I do.  12 The truth of the matter is, anyone who has faith in me will do the works I do and, and greater works besides. Why? Because I go  to Abba God. 13  and whatever you ask in my name, I will do.  So that God may be glorified in me. Anything you ask in my names I will do.

3. Chant  O God hear my prayer. O God hear my prayer. When I call answer me. O God hear my prayer.  God hear my prayer. Come and listen to me. (repeat)

Silence

Gospel of John 15 “If you love me, and obey the  commandments I give you, I will ask the One, who sent me to give you another Paraclete, another Helper to be with you always-- the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, since the world neither sees her nor recognizes her, but you can recognize the Spirit because she remains with you and will be within you. 18 “I won’t leave you orphaned; I am coming back to you.

Chant “Come and fill my heart with your peace, you the God of love are holy. Come and fill our hearts with your peace”

Silence

Gospel of John 19 A little while now and the world will see me no more, but you will see me; because I live, you will live as well. 20 On that day you will know that I am in God, and you are in me, and I am in you.

Chant Come and pray in us, Holy Spirit, come and pray in us, come and visit us, Holy Spirit, Spirt come, Spirit come. (repeat)

Silence

Gospel of John “Rabbi, why is it that you’ll  reveal yourself to us, and not to the whole world?” 23 Jesus answered, “Those who love me will be true to my word, and Abba God will love them, and we will come to them and make our dwelling place with them. 24 Those who don’t love me don’t keep my words; Yet the message you hear is not mine; it comes from Abba God who sent me. This much I have said to you while still with you.

4. Chant Holy Spirit come to us, kindle in us the fire of your love, Holy Spirit, come to us, Holy Spirit, come to us.”(repeat)

Silence

Gospel of John 26 But the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom Abba God will send in my name, will instruct you in everything, and she will remind you of all that I have told you. 27 Peace I leave you; my peace I give to you but the kind of peace I give to you is not like the world’s peace.  Don’t let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.

Chant Come and fill our heart with your peace, You the God of love are holy. Come and fill our hearts with your peace, alleluia. (repeat)

 Silence

Commentary “The awareness of the numinous may come not only from internal images, such as that of the Self, but from reality’s external to the psyche. If this is so, then the sense of the numinous may come not only from internal images,…but is also the result of impressions from spiritual realities outside the psyche—however (strictly speaking) scientifically unknowable that reality might be. If we contemplate the expanse of the heavens on a glorious clear night, or if we marvel at the depths of love of a human being whom we know deeply, are not such numinous experiences capable of arousing in us a wonder and awe that leads us to a belief in God that is founded not on rational considerations but on an experience with a reality outside of ourselves that has moved the heart to find its own way of knowing? ….Thus the love we have toward God is engendered by God’s very own numinosity.”

1. The Fellowship of the Common Table

"Praying a New Story.   The Dignity of us all."

Encountering Jesus in the 21st Century

Let us begin with these words of wisdom from

The Gospel of Mathew 5:43-45 King James Version (adapted)

43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;45 That ye may be the Children of Heaven.

 (In Unison)

For all that has been said and all that has been left unsaid,

We offer our blessings, our hope and our prayers.

We pray, conscious that raising our hearts and minds is a gift of the Spirit of Life at work in the depths of our being.

For the presence of that Spirit in us, we give thanks.

We pray, conscious that our prayer gives the Spirit a way of breaking into word and song unique in all the universe.

For the words and songs within each of us, we give thanks.

We pray, believing we are bearers of a treasure, the Spirit of Life blessing us with a variety of gifts.

For the treasures we each bear, we give thanks.

We pray, mindful of the men and women throughout history who have allowed the Living Spirit to sing and speak through them for the betterment of our world.

For their lives and their inspiration, we give thanks.

2.We pray, remembering Jesus who so allowed the Spirit of Life to move in his life that in him we have seen the expression of the Spirit of love and compassion.

For Jesus and all he means to us, we give thanks

We pray, challenged by Jesus, to allow his life to be a mirror for us so that we might live life in all its fullness.

We are grateful for all that has brought us together, of the Spirit at work in our lives and of what may be possible if we allow the Living Spirit to be a part of who we are.

We pray, inviting the Spirit of Life, Love, and Mystery to move more freely in our words and actions. Let us pause in a moment of silent reflection….

"Through Jesus we believe we are all sons and daughters' of one God:  We are the temple of the spark of life.

We believe the same Spirit that we see in Jesus yearns to live in us.

"This is our common dignity: that whatever race or creed, whatever our place or time,
We long to see our common humanity proclaimed and celebrated by all people.

We pray that the one Spirit that all people share may find a home in us for the blessing of all.  This is our prayer of Praise and Thanksgiving:

The Sun rises and sets each day and night—

Blessing us with warmth and sunlight

And starlight and moonlight.

The Seasons come and go

3.Bringing us rain and growth

And harvest and rest

 For the turning year

Which feeds us and gives us life

We give Thanks and Praise

For the magnificence of the Universe

The joy of birth and the mystery of death

We are humbled and turn to each other

Knowing we are brothers and sisters

In a world of both joy and sorrow

And when our seasons are done

We surrender our flesh to the earth

And offer our spirit to the stars

We give thanks and praise

We honor Jesus who welcomed all to dine with him

And receive the Blessing of Grace and Love.

Jesus would share the bread and the cup

With the righteous and the outcasts

Offering the blessings of the spirit to all

We follow Him and partake of the Bread of Life

And the Cup of Wisdom that we may partake

In the healing and wholeness of faith and love

And stand firm midst the dangers and pitfalls of this world

(The bread and cup are passed)

(silent reflection)

In unison…

We return to the world and the future we seek

Strengthened by the spirit of grace and the work of love

Healing Worship by Bruce Epperly

Meditation ” While we do not expect supernatural interruptions of the processes of nature the dynamic vision of reality presented by scriptures, quantum physics, and the emerging partnership of spirituality and medicine reminds us that within the interdependent matrix of mind, body, spirit, and the relationship, holy touch and faithful prayer can bring unexpected wholeness to our lives.” Healing Worship by Bruce Epperly

Prayers of Confession  ( in unison from New Zealand Prayer Book)

One  Dear God, Thank you for all that is good, for our creation and our humanity, for the stewardship you have given us of this planet earth, for the gifts of life and one another, for the love which is unbounded and eternal.

All O thou, most holy and beloved, my Companion, my Guide upon the way, my bright evening star.

One We repent of the wrongs we have done: Silence

We have wounded your love, O God heal us.

All We stumble in the darkness. Light of the world, transfigure us. We forget that we are your home. Spirit of God, dwell in us. Eternal Spirit, living God, in whom we live and more and have our being, all that we are, have been, and shall be is known to you to the very secret of our hearts and all that rises to trouble us. Living flame, burn into us, cleansing wind, blow through us, fountain of water well up within us, that we may love and pray in deed and in truth. Amen

Healing Prayers

Unison Prayer  Mother/Father God who is within us, we celebrate your many names. Your wisdom come, your will be done, unfolding from the depths within us. Each day you give us all that we need. You remind us of our limits and we let go. You support us in our power and we act with courage. For you are the dwelling place within us, the empowerment around us, and the celebration among us, now and forever. Amen

Scripture NRSV Gospel of John 20:19-28  When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As Abba God has sent me, so I send you.” 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” 24 But Thomas (who was called the Twin one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Jesus.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.” A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

Meditation ”Christians have tended to view the resurrection as Jesus’ triumph over physical death. But for Christians in the wisdom tradition (who include their ranks the very earliest witnesses to the resurrection) its meaning lies in something far deeper than merely the resuscitation of a corpse. Jesus’ real purpose in this sacrifice was to wager his own life against his core conviction that love is stronger than death, and that the laying down of self which is the essence of this love leads not to death, but to life. He was not about proving that a body lives forever, but rather that the spiritual identity forged through kenotic self-surrender survives the grave and can never be taken away. Thus the real domain of the Paschal Mystery is not dying but dying-to self. It serves as the archetype for all our personal experiences of dying and rising to new life along the pathway of kenotic transformation reminding us that it is not only possible but imperative to fall through fear into love because that is the only way we will ever truly know what it means to be alive.”  Cynthia Bourgeault The Meaning of Mary Magdalene

(Note Kenosis is self-emptying, needed in order to be receptive to God's divine will.)

Scripture NRSV Gospel of John 20;11-18 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; 12and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. 13They said to her, “Woman, why are you

weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” 14When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni!” (which means Beloved Teacher). 17Jesus said to her, “Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” 18Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”; and she told them that he had said these things to her.”

Gospel of Mary Magdalene Line 7 “She said, ‘I saw the Lord in a vision and I said to him, ’Lord, I saw you today in a vision. ‘He answered me, ‘How wonderful you are not wavering at seeing me! For where the mind is, there is the treasure.”

The Process Perspective, Dr. John B. Cobb Jr.

Meditation “We can trust God to direct us to the best possible, but we certainly cannot assume that the best will be pleasant or desirable! Following Whitehead, process theologians also speak of God drawing us toward new contrasts that involve the sacrifice of earlier assurances. To follow God is repeatedly to die to what we have been in order to rise to what is now possible.”

Bruce Epperly Healing Worship

Meditation “The first and most important, task of a healing theology is to proclaim the good news that God wants us to be healthy and whole, regardless of our current physical or mental condition. God does not punish us….Manifestations of God’s healing desire occur in worship and in private prayer, and bodies and minds can be transformed in the immediacy of the moment. But many, if not most spiritual healings and  physical cures take place quietly and imperceptivity in the gentle and natural process of growth and renewal of body, mind and spirit…It is helpful for persons facing chronicle and life-threatening illness to remember that the greatest healing arises from a trusting relationship to a faithful God. While we can always hope and pray for a cure, our ultimate hope is to become partners in God’s holy desire for shalom and wholeness…..healing worship must be part of an ongoing congregational emphasis on theological education and pastoral care that explicitly address the questions, controversies and doubts persons have about God’s presence in their lives as well has the constructive expression of healing images of God. Matthew 4:1-4 The Inclusive Bible, the First Egalitarian Translation Then Jesus was led into the desert by the Spirit, to be tempted by the Devil (aka his inner false self or ego.) After fasting for forty days and forty nights, Jesus was hungry.  Then the tempter (false self or ego) approached and said to him, “If you are the Only Begotten, command these stones to turn into bread.”  Jesus replied, “Scripture has it, ‘We live not on bread alone, but on every utterance that comes from the mouth of God.’” Next the devil (false self or ego) took Jesus to the holy city and set him on the parapet of the temple, saying to him, “If you are the Only Begotten, throw yourself down; Scripture has it, ‘God will tell his angels to take care of you,’  With their hands they will support that you will never stumble on a stone.’” Jesus answered him, “Scripture also says, ‘Do not put God to the test.’” The devil (false self or ego) then took Jesus up a very high mountain and displayed all the dominions of the world in their magnificence promising. “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me” At this Jesus said to the Devil, (false self or ego.) “Away with you, Satan (false self or ego) ! Scripture says, ‘You will worship the most high God. God alone will you adore.’ “At that the devil left, and angels came and attended Jesus.

Dancing in the Flames, Marion Woodman

“A simple, beautiful practice has bee spreading along with the Work That Reconnects. To celebrate their commitment to life and their solidarity with activists the world over, people join hands in a circles dance….Joann took the Elm Dance to workshops she was leading with a Russian-speaking team in areas poisons by the Chernobyl disaster. Amen

Aldous Huxley’s The Devil of Loudon

Sunday January 28, 2018 5 pm

Church Mission Encouraging awe and loving intimacy with all of creation and the cosmos, we explore the visual and performing arts, dreams, wisdom teachings of Christ-Sophia in the Bible and newly found gnostic gospels, prayer, social activism, and relationships as we work to care for our common home Mother Earth, in a new kind of local and global community. We are a home church with people around the world via the Internet, exploring a new eco-feminist religious story for our time.

Our Common Home, a church and counseling center a new non-profit, provides religious and psychological services to awaken to the moral and ecologic crisis as an invitation for spiritual growth and creating loving community with all of creation, caring for our common home, Mother Earth

Meditation “No man can concentrate his attention upon evil, of even upon the idea of evil, and remain unaffected. To be more against the devil that for God is exceedingly dangerous. Every crusader is apt to go mad. He is haunted by the wickedness which he attributes to his enemies; it becomes in come sort a part of him.” Aldous Huxley’s The Devil of Loudon

Welcome and Check in, Lighting of Candles and Incense

Invocation in Unison God of love, you are the circle that leaves no one out, remove from this sacred place of worship all fear, close mindedness  and competition. Fill us with  your light that we may be open to your omnipresent healing love. Amen

Passing of the Peace God Loves You and There is Nothing You Can Do About It

Scriptures Gospel of Mark 1:21-28, NRSV They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught. 22They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. 23Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, 24and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.” 25But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” 26And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.27They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, “What is this? A new teaching—with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 28At once his fame began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee.

Philippians 4:8-9 NRSV Finally, beloved,[a] whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about[b] these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

Prayers of Confession in Unison Merciful God, We confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole hearts and mind and strength; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We now offer you in silence those ways we have sinned. (Silence and bell) We ask for pardon that we may delight in your loving forgiveness. Amen (adapted from Presbyterian worship book)
